Comparison of chlorophyll distributions in the northeastern Arabian Sea and southern Bay of Bengal using IRS-P4 Ocean Color Monitor data

چکیده
Water masses of different temperature and salinity partially govern the distributions of chlorophyll concentration. In the present paper, chlorophyll concentration has been deduced over the northeastern Arabian Sea and the southern Bay of Bengal using Ocean Color Monitor (OCM) data onboard Indian Remote Sensing Series Polar satellite (IRS-P4). The chlorophyll concentration is found to be higher in the northeastern Arabian Sea compared to those in the southern Bay of Bengal. The higher chlorophyll concentration is found during the northeast monsoon compared to those during the preand post-monsoon period and also in the coastal water compared to the open ocean. Higher spatial and seasonal chlorophyll distributions in the northeastern Arabian Sea compared to the southern Bay of Bengal is attributed to the shallow depth of the shelf in the Arabian Sea. Monthly variability of chlorophyll and associated physical parameters in the southwest Bay of Bengal water using remote sensing data
In the present paper, we have carried out analysis of surface chlorophyll-a concentration in the seas around India obtained using the Indian Remote Sensing satellite IRS-P4 Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM) data. The focus was given to southwest Bay of Bengal where such studies are scanty. The study portraits the chlorophyll-a pattern during July 1999-June 2000. The monthly sea surface temperature (SS...
متن کاملRetrieval of aerosol parameters using IRS P4 OCM data over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal
The recent first-field phase of Indian Ocean Experiment has provided various types of aerosol data over the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. Using optical sensors on-board numerous satellites, global aerosol parameters have been estimated by many workers. In this communication, we have used IRS P4 OCM data to retrieve the aerosol parameters over the Arabian Sea and the Bay o...
متن کاملImpact of cyclones on the Bay of Bengal chlorophyll variability using remote sensing satellites
Impact of three different cyclones on the Bay of Bengal water and its surface chlorophyll concentration has been studied in three different zones during October-December 2000 using 24 scenes of IRS-P4 Ocean Color Monitor (OCM). The chlorophyll concentration found to be increasing up to 5.0 mg/m with effect of cyclones and hurricanes. The data has been correlated with Sea Surface Temperature (SS...
متن کاملMonthly variability in surface pCO2 and net air-sea CO2 flux in the Arabian Sea
[1] Recent studies on biogeochemical cycling of carbon in the Arabian Sea, by Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS), revealed that the Arabian Sea is a perennial source of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. The surface pCO2 is governed by physical processes such as water mass transports, upwelling and winter convective mixing, and associated biological processes. Hence surface pCO2 distribution ...
متن کاملSeven year satellite observations of the mean structures and variabilities in the regional aerosol distribution over the oceanic areas around the Indian subcontinent
Aerosol distribution over the oceanic regions around the Indian subcontinent and its seasonal and interannual variabilities are studied using the aerosol optical depth (AOD) derived from NOAA-14 and NOAA-16 AVHRR data for the period of November 1995–December 2003. The air-mass types over this region during the Asian summer monsoon season (June–September) are significantly different from those d...
